A concertmaster is a superior violinist who

• knows and practices their orchestral parts
• continually makes every effort to musically improve and is genuinely inquisitive
• has superb attendance record who arrives on time ready to play
• leads by example
• makes decisions based on the good of the group
• works to make their colleagues sound better

The date for concertmaster auditions will be held Monday, September 29, 2008 during the second half of our rehearsal. The concertmaster needs to show that they can play all of the requirements as the rest of the section plus the special requirements listed below. There will be no other audition for the chair during the year. We reserve the right to reopen the auditions at any time during the season.

Requirements for concertmaster audition:

  • J.S. Bach: any movement from the partidas or solo sonatas. Does not need to be memorized. Alternative works may be played but must be cleared with Mr. Weeda first.
  • Rimsky-Korsakav: Solos from Capriccio espagnol - Get sheet music Does not need to be memorized.
  • Other works or passages may be assigned during coaching on September 15.
  • Sightreading will be on the audition
