Congratulations AYS!
The Anchorage Youth Symphony has received the 2007 Mayor's Award for Arts for a Youth Program. The Mayor's Arts Awards recognizes individuals or organizations of Anchorage whose contributions to the cultural development and quality of life in Anchorage have a significant impact on the lives of our citizens.

THANK YOU SAFEWAY.

Anchorage Youth Symphony PTSA would like to thank Carrs/Safeway for their participation in the eScrip program and generous support of young musicians throughout the Anchorage area.

The Safeway eScrip program is a fantastic program where educational groups can earn money from purchases families are already making at their local Safeway. Over 5,000 families have registered their Safeway Club Card numbers and now every time they shop a percentage of what they spend is coming back to Anchorage Youth Symphony.

The money that is generated from this program supports the development of high school musicians who play in the Anchorage Youth Symphony. Funds help enrich these student musicians with opportunities to travel and perform in new venues.  This summer AYS will travel to Australia to perform in the 20th Annual International Music Festival and will include a finale performance in the Sydney Opera House. Funds also support the development of younger musicians in grades 6-8.

Thank you Safeway for continuing to fund this program even as the economy has slumped. We VERY much appreciate your commitment to education even when (especially when) economic times are hard. We hope your staff at Carrs/Safeway stores have been able to enjoy the free tickets to our Anchorage Youth Symphony performances this year. We appreciate your support and look forward to continuing our partnership with you to fund youth education!
